Ham on Rye

I've been on a reading kick this year and after getting turned on to Charles Bukowski last Christmas by my brother Matt, I've read both Post Office and Factotum. I just picked up Ham on Rye. I would suggest you all check out his books. I would try and sum up his writing style but I think I'll just post the following customer review from Amazon:

Bukowski is the type of writer who invites you out for a drink to his favorite bar and the next thing that you know it's two years later, your swimming in your own vomit and and living in a dive hotel right out of one of your very worst nightmares. But, he sure can write. Compare this book to Down and Out in Paris and London by Orwell. Why is it that Bukowski is not recognized for what he was: a great American poet and purveyor of folklore chronicling the exploits of society's eternal misfits?

Sarah Johanna says:

the laughing heart

-bukowski

your life is your life

don't let it be clubbed into dank

submission.

be on the watch.

there are ways out.

there is a light somewhere.

it may not be much light but

it beats the darkness.

be on the watch.

the gods will offer you

chances.

know them. take them.

you can't beat death but

you can beat death

in life,

sometimes.

and the more often you

learn to do it,

the more light there will

be.

your life is your life.

know it while you have

it.

you are marvelous

the gods wait to delight

in

you.

-That's one of my favorite Bukowski poems... I was excited to see you mention him. By the way, I enjoy your sites and your talent is quite impressive. I always look at them, but never feely gutsy enough to post... except today... and have a beautiful today.

The Thief says:

Not that one is desperate.

Not that one is being sarcastic.

There you go Jonathan, you just keep denying yourself by defying all the rules of knowledge, and live in a seemingly real world, which is nothing more than a depressing superficiality and senseless motivations of ignorance and altruistic sentiments.

Cant think of anything else about. Take this as you will take any of those messages that linger from unknown and ignorant minds, as well as you portrait yours...

Not critizicing...just tracking

Liking you web site, but with an unfullfilling need of wise and knowledge. most recall.

Maybe you are much more than this...

keep being optimistic and egocentric, you wont reach far enoug to see who you really, and what this all about

dont like people who like everything because at the end they cant understand and appreciate the meaning of each single thing, and they forgot what was it intended for...
