2 0 0 1

It's amazing how fast this past year has gone by... the years just keep on passing faster and faster each year. It's funny how when you are in your teen years you desperately want to be older but when you're finally 24 or 25 or whatever age you may be, you wish you could slow down the aging process and even reverse it.

2001 has been a "reconstruction" year for me as I've stated before. I started the year in San Francisco, just having lost my "perfect" job doing what I like to do: being creative, web design, etc... I became a dot-com refugee with what seemed like the rest of the city. Depression set in as I found it impossible to get another job. As you may or may not know, you will not last in the Bay Area on no income for very long. So, in April I packed up all of my belongings and put them away in storage near my apartment and drove back to my hometown of Nashville, TN... It was nice to come home and see family members and friends, but that quickly faded and I began feeling homesick for California.

Fast-forward to today, 8 months later and I am still in Nashville and all of my stuff is still back in storage in San Lorenzo, California. I am still homesick and I am still hoping to get back to SF asap. My goal is by the Spring, if I can find a job back there... hehehe... yeah, right

So despite the major setback of having to return home to Nashville, some good things did occur in 2001. Aside from getting to see my family again, I got to go on a road trip up to Canada and back which included a chance to finally meet Radiohead.

saturday afternoon blues

i heard the phone ringing and for a quick second i thought that it was you. my heart raced and i ran throughout the house looking for the damn cordless phone, hoping that i would find it before that blasted message on the answering maching would go on. my mind jumped around thinking of all of the possible scenarios that this one phone call would produce. are you calling me home? are you calling to say your sorry? are you calling to say that you love me?

i found the phone underneath some clothes and answered it, fortunately before the machine got it. it was a wrong number and i drifted back to sleep, disappointed but also relieved.

My Reading List

I forgot to mention that I got two new books to read! Right now I'm reading Chuck Palahniuk's Choke and Post Office by Charles Bukowski.

Back Home!

We arrived back home yesterday afternoon to a very cold and dreary Nashville. *breaks out my huge winter coat*.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Mine was nice, though they do seem to get less and less fullfillilng the older you get. I didn't get much but that's okay... I didn't ask for much anyway. ;)

I was on TV

Well, the airport was total chaos yesterday. It took me over an hour just to check my bag in and then another 45 minutes to go through the security check. Thankfully I arrived 3 hours early so I didn't miss my flight. A lot of people in line with me were furious that they had to wait which I really don't understand. It's worth having to stand in line if that's what it takes to have a safe flight.

Once I boarded my plane, I noticed that the lady sitting directly in front of me looked framiliar. I noticed that a lot of people passing by were smiling at her and this one guy said, "You're a lucky girl!" I spent about 5 minutes trying to figure out who it was and then decided to ask the lady sitting next to me if she knew. It turns out that it was Dayna Curry, one of the two American women who were held captive in Afghanistan and were recently freed.

She had a stack of letters with her that I assumed she had received from people all across the US and just about everyone sitting around her were asking her questions and talking to her. She is very talkative and was laughing and smiling the whole trip, which at first I thought was odd but I guess it's not.

The funny thing happened when we landed in New Orleans and walked off the plane. I was walking off directly behind her and when we arrived in the gate area I noticed that there was a camera crew there from the local news station. They filmed her walking down the terminal and guess who appeared on TV walking right next to her? Me! Haha.... I tried to look like I was somebody important knowing that actually I looked like a fool. Once I arrived at my Grandparent's house, I switched on the TV and there I was! Too funny! It made the long, stressfull day seem worthwhile. I know, I'm retarded. ;)

Happy Holidays!

It's been a busy week for me so I haven't had much time to post. I leave in about 2 hours to head to the airport to fly down to New Orleans for the Christmas holiday. I know, you're thinking "New Orleans! Wow!" Actually, the place I'm going to is south west of New Orleans (I bet you thought you couldn't get any more south than New Orleans, didn't you) where my Grandparents live. So, the excitment level is not at the highest right now. It will be nice to get away from home, though.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous about flying. I haven't flown since 9/11. I've flown so many times in my life without being nervous or anything so it'll be interesting today.

I will be bringing my iBook with me so maybe if I'm really really bored, I'll post something from there.

Well, got to finish packing...

Airport fun

"How did you spend your weekend, Jonathan?"

Well, I spent Saturday night wrestling with trying to set up my Apple Airport Base Station so that I can use my iBook throughout the house without any wires or ethernet cables. What a headache. I finally have it working and am really enjoying the freedom of moving around with my iBook and always staying connected to the Internet. Yeah, I know... what a geek!

My weekend wasn't a total loss, though. Earlier today I found a full version of the Sigur Ros song "njósnalagid" that appeared in Vanilla Sky. It was recorded live from San Francisco and I've been listening to it non-stop. I love Audio Galaxy! ;)

Vanilla Sky

I just got back from seeing Vanilla Sky and man is my head about to explode! What an incredible movie! I really went in to seeing this film thinking that it wouldn't be great because the previews for the film aren't all that great. I guess I should stop basing movies on their previews!

The movie had me sold right at the beginning when the first thing you heard was Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place." What a perfect song for the opening of this movie. I was also happy to hear some songs from Sigur Ros, especially the song at the very end of the movie that they played last night on Craig Kilborn. I love that song! It was nice to hear Jeff Buckley too.

Tom Cruise did a stellar job with this role and who could not love Penelope Cruz! Now I know why Tom fell in love with her during the filming.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and definitely recommend it to everyone. I'm very impressed.

I know I'm going to have to go out and buy the movie soundtrack even though I own just about all the songs that were played in the movie! :)

Manic Monday

I know everyone says that they hate mondays but I REALLY HATE THEM! What a bastard of day today has been.

It was nice, however, to see that Surfstation has added one of my photos to their "Pick One" section!

Many thanks to Aurora for letting me know that Sigur Ros will be appearing on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn this Friday night! Check your local CBS affiliate for exact times.

Long December

I did some minor tweaks to the site today. Expect everything to be finished by week's end.

I can't wait for the Christmas madness to be all over. I still haven't done one ounce of shopping yet so I guess I better get on the ball! One good thing about the holidays (besides the presents!) is that there are usually some movies to see in the theater. I am anxiously awaiting The Royal Tenenbaums which will be out very soon. The director, Wes Anderson, is brilliant! You may know him from his other two movies Rushmore and my favorite movie of all time Bottle Rocket. Check out the well-designed official site at www.royaltenenbaums.com.

I've been seeing A LOT of previews for Orange County which stars Jack Black of Tenacious D. Speaking of Jack Black, he will be hosting Saturday Night Live sometime in January with The Strokes as the musical guests. It's going to be quite a show!

New Look

I've spent most of the day redesigning this site as you may have noticed. There are some things still left to do but for the most part, it's finished.

Right now I need to get out of the house before I throw this mouse out the window.

PJ Harvey just made my day

Well the day started pretty crappy until I flipped the channel to MTV and saw PJ Harvey's new video for "This Is Love", which you know just made my day. :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Made

Yesterday I bought the Made DVD which was written and directed by Jon Favreau which featured him and Vince Vaughn as two wannabe gangsters. If you liked these two guys last movie together Swingers, you'll love this one. Vince Vaughn is one of the funniest actors out there... some of his lines in this movie will have you on the floor laughing.

It definitely gets my recommendation.

It's been freezing cold over the last few days but thankfully today sunny and much warmer. I'm off to the park! Ciao!

A New Month

Is it December already? Gosh!

I finally got DSL set up in my house so that two macs and a PC are sharing the internet. Let me just say that it feels so good to be off of dial-up.

MP3s here I come!

;)
