Land of old people

I arrived in Naples, Florida last night about midnight to visit my Dad and damn, I have never seen so many old people in one place! My Dad said that over half the population here in Naples leaves in March and April to go back North. There is a huge retirement scene going on here....

But, it's beautiful and I am having a good time. It's "red tide" season so there are dead fish and if you walk on the beach for a long time, you will begin choking from the toxic stench of the dead sea creatures...

I won't be posting much this week... I may upload some s in a couple of days.

The second after I log on to AIM today, I get an IM from Elvis who tells me he got to hang out with Mike Mills from REM and Butch Vig from Garbage last night. Damn you! Haha...

Guess I better get my butt out to LA, right?

REM was my first favorite band

Waaaaaay back in the day, when "Stand" and "Orange Crush" where hot and then right on through Out of Time up until their last album Reveal. The first time I saw Radiohead live was at a REM concert in 1995.

I don't listen to REM much anymore, but I occasionally have "REM days" when songs like "So. Central Rain" and "Perfect Circle" are on repeat. Consider today a "REM day."

A lot people didn't like Up... it's one of my favorite albums.

I've found a way to make you

I've found a way

a way to make you smile

I read bad poetry

into your machine

I save your messages

just to hear your voice.

you always listen carefully

to awkwards rhymes.

you always say your name.

like I woulden't know it's you,

at your most beautiful.

I've found a way to make you

I've found a way

a way to make you smile

at my most beautiful

I count your eyelashes secretly.

with every one, whisper I love you.

I let you sleep.

I know you're closed eye watching me,

listening.

I thought I saw a smile.

I've found a way to make you

I've found a way

a way to make you smile

My secret admirer

Every year I receive a Valentine's Day card from someone named Judy Uptree. I've been getting these cards all my life and I've come to find out that my Grandparents are the ones behind Judy Uptree. I've actually known about this for years but it still brings a smile on my face when I receive one of these cards.

My family is goofy. Hehe...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, it's February 14th and you all know what that means... I want to wish you all a wonderful Valentine's Day and I hope that you all have someone that you can whisper "I Love You" to. If not, and you're a girl, this guy needs a girlfriend.

New pics and GP down....

Most of my day was spent at beautiful Fall Creek Falls in Spencer, TN. I've been on a scenic kick lately and I really don't know why... There's so much everwhere (yes, even here in Tennessee) and I'm hungry to eat it all up. I guess that when I get back to San Francisco (notice I said when... it'll happen one day!), I would like to have these photos to remind me of my time back here in Tennessee.

Anyway, Fall Creek Falls was spectacular. There is this cool suspension bridge that is straight out of Indiana Jones that scared the shit out of me.... it was swaying left and right and the god-knows-how-old pieces of wood were creaking.

Check out the photos!

I'm going to add another gallery either tomorrow or Friday of Hawaii from October 2000.

The Deacon Effect

Do nice guys finish last? Unfortunately, it seems like they do. Check out this humorous story about the "Deacon Effect" and one guy's test to see how big of a jerk he could be to two ladies and how they reacted.

I do not condone being a jerk but you have to chuckle at this story... :)

Coachella!

If there wasn't a good enough reason to be back in California before, then there is now! Some of the biggest names in music will take part in this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California this April 27 and 28. We're talking Björk, Oasis, Foo Fighters, The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy (where have they been??!), Basement Jaxx, Mos Def (!), Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada, Jurassic 5, Zero 7, Belle & Sebastian, and many many others! Can it get any better than this? Okay, okay... maybe it would be better if Radiohead was there but hey, we'll still live. Now, I just need a way to be able to get back to Cali...

*starts to plan*

Olympics

So the 19th Olympic Winter Games were welcomed last night to Salt Lake City with, in my opinion, a too long, sometime gagging, but overall entertaining opening ceremony. I mean, LeAnn Rimes? C'mon? Also, what was up with Katie Couric and Bob Costas? I really wanted to strangle these two with their useless commentary and unfunny jokes. I know it was cold but jeez..

Sting + Yo Yo Ma = Better than the Dixie Chicks... yuck.

Lighting of the Olympic cauldron = touching, though why did it have to take so long to get the torch up there? They kept on passing it off to one another. It kinda looked ridiculous.

Jim McKay = Nice to see him there but they should of woke him up before the ceremony began.

Animal Puppets = Very cool!

And of course I won't start talking about George W Bush. It was nice to see him go and sit with the athletes rather than sitting in a bulletproof "pope box" but I could of sworn I saw him reading declaration of the games or whatever it's called of some type of cue-card. Haha.... I guess I would be too even though it's only a couple of lines. It was funny seeing him talk on the cell phone. Oh, and what was up with the berets the US team had on? Ugh. :)

Let the games begin!

I have a fireplace screensaver...

...but unfortunately it doesn't keep me very warm. Today it snowed again but still, it's not enough to call a blizzard or anything. People in Nashville freak out when it snows, even if it's just a dusting. Back in high school I used to work at grocery store and if the local TV weatherman even said there was a chance of the white stuff, there would be a mad rush at the grocery with people stocking up on bread and milk.

Anyway, I got my flight confirmation from Southwest for my trip down to Florida later this month. I'm flying down to FT Lauderdale and then driving over to Naples where my father has been living the high life since he retired last year. It will be "interesting" to say the least and I guess I'll need to brush up on my shuffleboard skills before I get down there. Hehehe... It'll be nice to go down there and visit my family and to get out of Nashville.

I've decided to make a splash page for this site which will probably be up in a couple of days. Normally I hate splash pages but I feel this will be a good way for me to be creative on a regular basis without having to redesign the full site.

Oh, is it wrong for me to be obsessed with that Kylie Minogue video? I just can't get it out my head. I feel so wrong. ;)

Fresh Air

Did anyone hear "Fresh Air" on NPR yesterday? Host Terry Gross was interviewing KISS frontman Gene Simmons and things started going way out of control. The NY Post has details.

I listen to "Fresh Air" all the time and even heard part of this episode last night where Gene was making fun of NPR and saying that the SNL parody was "spot on." NPR is apparently not archiving the show on their Website, which sucks cause I would like to hear the whole thing.

Why I hate Limp Bizkit

It's stuff like this that just drives me crazy. Have you heard about the national auditions that Mr. Durst is doing to replace Wes Borland? Can you imagine being a big fan of Limp Bizkit and actually having a chance to audition for them and then they turn around and steal your music? Make sure to read the fine print if you plan on trying out.

Yuck.

Alive

It was one of those continuous rains, hot hard, but it NEVER stopped. The territory I was driving was new to me but at least it was light enough to read the clipboard. But as it got darker it was harder to read (by the dashboard light) or locate the pickup boxes. Also the water was rising in the streets, and several times I had stepped into water up to my ankles.

Then the dashboard light went out. I couldn't read the clipboard. I had no idea where I was. Without the clipboard I was like a man lost in the desert. But the luck wasn't all bad -yet. I had two boxes of matches and before I made for each new pickup box, I would light a match, memorize the directions and drive on. For once, I had outwitted Adversity, that Jonstone up there in the sky, looking down, watching me.

Then I took a corner, leaped out to unload the box and when I got back the clipboard was GONE! Jonstone in the Sky, have Mercy! I was lost in the dark and the rain. WAS I some kind idiot, actually? Did I make things happen to myself? It was possible. It was possible that I was subnormal, that I was lucky to be alive.
