The local scene

Definitely check out www.yewknee.com for some great design and his photo site at intentional.tv for some equally cool photos. I was pleasantly surprised to see he's in Nashville right now doing such great work. I've also discovered a slew of other Middle Tennessee-based designers over at the615.com.

There's some really talented people over in these parts! :)

Mozilla

I was feeling a little adventurous tonight and decided to give Mozilla for OS X a try and overall, I am very please with it. It's still got some minor things (it took me forever to organize my imported favorites in a way that is similar to how IE has them) that need to be worked out before I make the switch. I do have two words for you that shows a lot of promise: TABBED BROWSING! :) Very nice indeed!

Cleaning products

I made the mistake of somehow getting into a discussion with two girls about household cleaning products today. Don't ask me how cause I'm not quite sure. Key words said were "Swiffer wet jet", "Dirt Devil", and "Clorox". All I did was nod and smile and I pretended to be interested in their conversation, though I was really thinking about how Sacramento beat the Lakers last night! Yeah!!

It's been a pretty slow day... :)

Bizarro world?

I just saw a Zero 7 video on VH-1 (yes, VH-1 USA) and I almost fell out of my chair. It came on and at first it was just a commercial for one of those "chilled out" compilations but no! Very nice surprise. And of course, the next video after was Puddle of Mud so go figure. Sheesh. What can ya do?

In other news, I found this thread at the H&V RH Board about the upcoming Portishead album called Alien that is supposedly going to be released in October. It's about damn time! 5 years is way too long! Let's hope this is for real...

"One of the last films to be screened at this year's Cannes Film Festival proved so shocking that 250 people walked out, some needing medical attention."

Running to Stand Still

I think this is one of my favorite U2 songs ever...

Running to Stand Still

And so she woke up

Woke up from where she was

Lying still

Said I gotta do something

About where we're going

Step on a steam train

Step out of the driving rain, maybe

Run from the darkness in the night

Singing ha, ah la la la de day

Ah da da da de day

Ah la la de day

Sweet the sin

Bitter the taste in my mouth

I see seven towers

But I only see one way out

You got to cry without weeping

Talk without speaking

Scream without raising your voice

You know I took the poison

From the poison stream

Then I floated out of here

Singing...ha la la la de day

Ha la la la de day

Ha la la de day

She runs through the streets

With her eyes painted red

Under black belly of cloud in the rain

In through a doorway she brings me

White gold and pearls stolen from the sea

She is raging

She is raging

And the storm blows up in her eyes

She will...

Suffer the needle chill

She's running to stand...

Still.

Some people wanted to see some of the free Radiohead stuff I've gathered over the years from doing Green Plastic. Above is a of stuff that was all sent to me by Capitol Records over the last two years to promote Kid A and Amnesiac. As you can see, there are stickers, posters, window clings, cash register displays, a Paul Frank Radiohead stool, a painting of the Capitol Records building by some artist (don't really know why this was sent...), a Pyramid Song video, the Ground Zero Radiohead interview on CD released by Capitol Records, and some other things...

This is just the tip of the iceberg, really. Most of this stuff I keep stored away and all my other RH stuff is in storage back in California. There was like a period of 2 months back in 2000 when just about every week I was receiving those bear stickers in the mail. And no, before you ask, I don't have many left as I gave most of them away. :)

And people ask me why I would want to run a fan-site... hehe... sheesh... ;)

Lucid Dream

I purchased and watched Vanilla Sky last night and I know a lot of people didn't like it but it did me just fine. It was interesting seeing it again knowing what to look for and of course, the music really made the movie and complimented the visuals. I mean, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, REM, and Jeff Buckley just to name a few! That scene at the end when he jumps off the building and that amazing song by Sigur Ros plays gives me the goosebumps!

One thing that is interesting though. We all know that Tom Cruise and Cameron Crowe are huge Radiohead fans but their DVD extra "Hitting it Hard" mini-documentary was obviously influenced by Radiohead's "Meeting People is Easy." Uncanny... :)

Joke of the day

This was told to me recently by my two young cousins, Scott and Brian:

Q: Why doesn't Afghanistan have any Wal-Marts?

A: Because there is a Target around every corner.

Feeling guilty

Lately, I've been having dreams that have me doing questionable things. I don't know what's going on! For example, last night I dreamed that a bunch of friends and I were robbing this house and I took one of those Microsoft X-Boxes among other stuff. What the hell?

Last week I dreamt that I was running from the Police in an airport and managed to escape their capture. I don't remember much about that dream.

Dreams... they're like my own little movies that I can get in for free!

Time for change

Today I decided to use Apple's iPhoto to organize all of my s. I've been needing something to help get them all organized and originally was turned off by iPhoto but gave it another chance after educating myself on it and it's features. I just finished importing most of my photos (1142 so far) and so far, so good! I think I may even try to make a book too!

Did anyone watch Celebrity Boxing tonight? I caught a glimpse of the last five minutes and was not amused. I can't understand people sometimes...

Perfect Circle

Put your hair back, we get to leave

Eleven gallows on your sleeve

Shallow figure, winner’s paid

Eleven shadows way out of place

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Pull your dress on and stay real close

Who might leave you where I left off?

A perfect circle of acquaintances and friends

Drink another, coin a phrase

Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room

Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room

Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room

Try to win and suit your needs

Speak out sometimes but try to win

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

ma chere!

New Orleans... you can't help but love this city. Whether it's the great music, great food, beer to go, voodoo, mardi gras, or the French Quarter, it's all great. It's a great city to visit... but I could never live there.

We arrived in N'awlins Friday night and were very very fortunate to stay in an amazing house that some people my brother knows owns and were going to be out of town. To say this house was incredible would be an understatement. It was located in the beautiful Garden District and the house was right next to Audobon Park. I've never stayed in such a nice house! You could look out the huge dining room windows and see the people running in the park. And to top it off, it had one of those old elevators with the gate!

Saturday was spent mostly at the Louisiana Superdome, where my brother was having his college commencement. He's been at Tulane for 4 years and it was really awesome to see him graduate. I'm very proud of him. Later that night, he was commissioned into the Navy since they basically paid for his college education. It was a nice ceremony too and I know he will serve our country well.

My whole family showed up, which was really weird. We haven't all gotten together like that in years. I thought it was going to be really awkward having my Dad and Stepmom there with my Mom's family, but it wasn't. I got to hang out with my uncle who is a professional photographer in Houston. He's got this wicked digital camera that is like $6000!

Of course a trip to New Orleans would not be complete without a visit to the French Quarter. Too bad I didn't have much time! I didn't have time to take advantage of their open container freedom which basically allows you to drink in the middle of the street and just stop at the next bar and fill on up! Oh, there's always next time!

If you'd like to see some s I took, take a look!.

Episode 2

Did I see it today? No.

Don't get me wrong, I will see it... probably next week, once the crowds die down a little. I just can't bear going to a theater full of Star Wars obsessed fans dressed like Imperial guards or Darth Maul. Hehe...

I grew up crazy about the first three Star Wars episodes, wanting to be Luke Skywalker, but there's something with these new ones that I just can't enjoy. Maybe it's the overdone special effects? There's something about a movie filmed mostly with a green screen that I don't like. I don't know. Sure, they pack entertainment value, I just feel like the whole saga has been scarred a little. Don't mess with a good thing Lucas! All in all, it's supposed to be fun so I guess I'll leave it at that and I will enjoy it. Anyway, I've heard that it's much better than Episode 1. It better be!

I say all this hoping that my friend Colleen doesn't read it. She sat behind George Lucas at the premiere of The Phantom Menance so you know she's a fan with contacts! Please forgive me! Hehe...

Did anyone see it? What did you think?

Well, I'm heading down to New Orleans in the morning and will be back Monday night. My brother is graduating from Tulane, which is really cool. Expect many, many s of New Orleans (one of my favorite cities)! It's going to be great...

now you're taken

Did you see him when I was away?

I would have phoned but you'd spoil the trip.

Will he be in the pub tonight?

I'll hate marriage and take a sip.

Will he be yours as of today?

Will I never see you now if you're taken?

Are you still the wearing that ring?

When she told me I was a little shaken.

Like a bird without the bed,

her sister says that we'll get wed.

And I should tell you I adore you

but I'm sure it would just bore you.

Quake!

Did any of you in the Bay Area feel last night's earthquake? Looks like it wasn't a big one, though an earthquake is an earthquake in my book.

When I moved to California in 2000, I was secretely dreading my first earthquake cause it seemed like everyone there was so cool about it. I remember I thought we had one at work one day... it was getting late and our office was like one huge room and we were all working, listening to Massive Attack or something like that, and I heard this loud sound that shook the building for a brief second. I was just about to jump down under my desk and scream "lord jaaaaysus, pleeeeassse help me" but fortunately, I didn't. Nobody else flinched. It turns out, it was a construction crew in the next building over tearing down a wall or something... hehe...

I didn't feel my first and only quake until a month or so before I left California. I was in my apartment, leaning against the wall and then BAM!... I get knocked forward and almost fell down. That was it. It felt like a train had crashed into my apartment wall. I quickly turned on the TV to get some confirmation and the news channel (KTVU Fox 2, got to love Dennis Richmond with his straight face) briefly ran a small announcement saying it was indeed an earthquake in the East Bay. I wanted live coverage, but I guess it was way too small to interrupt Wheel of Fortune. :)

I now had my earthquake story, which has probably been exaggerated to friends... hehe.

i'm not living, i'm just killing time.

I was watching Fahrenheit 451 the other day and it was weird hearing him say, "You're not living, you're just killing time."

I have been so busy lately so that would explain the lack of posts. One of the things I have been working on is getting mortigi tempo back up and running after like a 7 or 8 month hiatus. Better late than never, I say. I'm pleased to see it up but it is tough work making sure everything is working and that for the most part, people get along. By the way, "mortigi tempo" is Esperanto for "killing time."

So, check out http://www.mortigitempo.org!

For you Sigur Ros fans out there...

Here's a little treat that was sent to me by Aurora:

http://www.this.is/wallpaper/video/sumar.mov. It's like 17MBs but well worth the download. :)

Here's some info I found at the wonderful sigur-ros.co.uk website:

on a sunny day last summer, sigur rós decided to move their equipment to the parking lot outside their studio and play olsen olsen for the neighbourhood. the icelandic artist hildur margrétardóttir, whose work space is nearby, video recorded this and has now put it up on her website, hildur.com. if you go to this website and click on the video camera image, you will find this video marked "summer in álafoss 2001". this is a must download! (the building behind the band is the band's infamous "swimming pool studio".)

Do you believe?

Do you believe in soul mates? I mean, really. Do you think it's possible to connect with someone so well that it's beyond relationships? Is it possible to feel what that person is thinking? Can you look at someone and know what they are about to say? Can you know someone for so long and never tire of their presence?

time...for...sleep...zzzz

What a lovely weekend spent with friends all around... I hope you all had a great weekend too.

I like to make people laugh with my sarcastic and sometimes odd humor but my mom doesn't think it's funny. She tells me that I sound too much like my father.

Anyway, here's a conversation that just happened:

Me: I really don't know why you want to tape all those Oprah episodes. She's so full of herself.

My Mom: But you can really learn good stuff from her show! You should watch it cause one day you may meet someone who you may want to have children with and this stuff will come in handy.

Me: What if I told you that I already had children and that you were already a grandmother.

My Mom: *has a puzzled look on her face and doesn't laugh*

I then spend the next couple of minutes trying to convince her that I am not a father.

Hehe...

Okay, after Alias I'm am going to zonk out early. More later...
