Boom!

Boy did it thunder tonight!

I didn't do much today... had the breakfast buffet at Shoney's which filled me up for the rest of the day.

Most of the day was spent hard at work on redesiging Mortigi Tempo and updating products in the MT Store. I just received some of the products yesterday and they came out really well! Especially the stainless steel travel mug! :)

Vanilla Coke = Nasty

As some of you know, I haven't had any caffeine for over three months. Well, that changed today. While standing in line at Kroger, I saw a cooler full of Vanilla Coke and I thought to myself, "I should treat myself and try one of these new drinks!" Bad mistake. Vanilla Coke, in my opinion, is the nastiest beverage that Coca-Cola has ever made and now I feel terrible because I threw away three months for nothing. I sort of feel like someone that was celibate for three months and then, in one night of temptation and passion, decided to spend the night with someone and then finding out they have some type of VD and then realizing it wasn't worth it all. Okay, maybe that isn't the best analogy. It did make me laugh though... ;)

It's not that big of a deal. I just won't make that mistake again.

So, anyway, today I decided to head up to Land Between the Lakes on the Tennessee/Kentucky border and it was very beautiful, even though the beach was riddled with dead fish. Hmm... It twas a good day, nevertheless.

Version 6

With Summer now in season, I decided to make some cosmetic changes around here, as you can probably tell.

I decided to take away the iTunes thing since I haven't been using iTunes except for maybe an hour or two a day. Maybe I'll bring it back someday.

My new favorite show: Monster Garage on the Discovery Channel. Gotta love a Mustang lawnmower and a New Beetle swamp buggy!

Time to go watch Craiggers.

Ciao!

Nothing but smiles over here

Had a wonderful day today at the park, though the threat of coyotes were ever present. Unfortunately, I didn't see any but I did get to spend time with my favorite person in the whole world. :)

Silence

Well, SomaFM is another casualty of the new webcasting rates which are absolutely ridiculous. When will the RIAA see that by hurting these small webcasters, they ultimately lose sales? I listened to SomaFM's Groove Salad and other streams a lot and discovered a lot of artists that I would of never found before and who's CD I would of never bought. The sad thing is that most of the streams are going to have to shut down now because it will be too expensive to operate.

Amazing.

While at k10k, I came across a fantastic site which displays skyscrapers across the world. You have to love the little pixelated buildings! Check out Nashvegas!

Last night's purchases

I picked up Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot last night because I had been hearing good things about this album for quite some time. I was not disappointed. It's been in my CD player all day and has already been imported into my iTunes playlist. Check it out!

If you are a Portishead fan then you should also pick up their Roseland NYC 1997 DVD. I can absolutely tell you that this DVD is stunning. Seeing the band and the philharmonic perform together at times brought goosebumps to my skin. Aside from footage of the actual concert, you can also see some of Portishead's wonderful videos including "How to Kill a Dead Man." This DVD will hopefully hold you and I over until their next album is released, whenever that will be.

In a semi-related story, last week I had to retire my favorite t-shirt which happens to be a Portishead shirt that I got in 1995. I'm surprised it lasted me that long! R.I.P.

Bonnaroo

This is kind of related to yesterday's post about jam bands. In nearby Manchester, TN, there is the Bonnaroo music festival going on starting today and apparently getting there is a little tough for some folks.

A rarity

I'm not into the whole "jam band" scene at all. Sure, I went to a Phish concert once but that wouldn't classify me as a "phan." I am, however, very open to all types of music and can find in just about everything.

The reason I bring this up is that I just found this article about 2 friends I know that run a site back in SF called JamBase. I used to work with these guys at my last job and even helped out with some of the JamBase stuff. I designed their brochures (which I need to put up in the 'folio section along with everything else!) that they passed out at various concerts across the country in 2000 and also some t-shirts. It's so good to read that both of them and JamBase are doing so well in a time when dot-coms are considered taboo.

If you're in to bands like Phish, check out this site.

All the King's horses and all the King's men

Had to get up early today to take my car to get it serviced at the VW place which cost me $400. :( Oh well, at least the car is driving like the black she is.

I wish I had something else to report. Things have been boring lately.

Scheisse!

Well, I was to go to the park today but instead saw the Bourne Identity at the theater. Yeah, I like action flicks but I have to admit, the real reason I wanted to see this movie was because of Franka Potente:

You'll remember her from Run Lola Run which is one of my favorite films of the last few years. Yeah, I got a little thing for her. ;)

I walked away from the film feeling satisfied. It wasn't the best movie ever but did have some nice action scenes. The chase sequence with Damon and Potente in the Mini was pretty cool. I was pleasantly surprised to see Clive Owen also. I've been a fan of his ever since I saw Croupier, which you should all check out.

All in all, if you're looking for an action film that keeps you entertained, this is your movie. Nothing more, nothing less. It was a pretty good first attempt at the action/thriller genre by director Paul Liman (Swingers, Go).

In Passing

I found a great site called In Passing over at Metafilter, which is basically a log of random overheard snippets of conversation from strangers. One of my favorites:

"I know he's just being nice, but I get to work, and I'm trying to fill out prescriptions, and I know that before 10:15am he's going to walk by and say, 'Are we having pharm yet? Har har!' Every day. I know he's going to come by, and when I see him, I want to scream."

Ho hum

So have aliens landed in Las Vegas yet? I saw something on the local news last night about Kreskin predicting that UFOs would land sometime this week in Las Vegas or he would donate $50K to charity. Apparently nothing has happened yet as I guess someone would of told me by now... :)

I received a copy of the new issue of Spin magazine (with Weezer on the cover) today from a writer I helped gather some Radiohead fans for a couple of months ago so she could interview them about Phil Selway running in the London Marathon recently. They had to shorten the article (which includes a of Phil running) and couldn't use any of the quotes that she collected from the fans. Sorry about that if you were involved!

Speaking of Spin, the interview I gave them back in January still hasn't appeared in an issue. The guy told me March or April and obviously that wasn't true.

Have you guys seen that new show on Comedy Central called Crank Yankers? Even with Steven Colbert in it, it's still crap. Why did they ever cancel Strangers with Candy?

A Reminder

If I get old

I will not give in

But if I do

Remind me of this

Remind me that

Once I was free

Once I was cool

Once I was me

And if I sat down

And crossed my arms

Hold me into

This song

Knock me out

Smash out my brains

If I take a chair

Start to talk shit

If I get old

Remind me of this

That night we kissed

And I really meant it

Whatever happens

If we're still speaking

Pick up the phone

Play me this song.

A good day to spend at the lake

Another great day for the race, huh? Yeah, that's right, the human race! Heh.

I picked up DJ Shadow's Private Press and Múm's Finally We Are No-one (recommended by Aurora). The Múm album is just plain awesome and I'm really digging it. I haven't heard the DJ Shadow album all the way through yet but so far, it sounds good. ;)

Sweating the small stuff

It's been a beautiful day around here but much too hot for me! I miss that soft bay breeze! :) It could be worse, though. Last time I went to Vegas we made the intellectual decision to go in mid July, which was suicide. Hehe... At least I came back with more money I had gone there with... Always bet on black! Oh I love Roulette!

See what I am listening to!

Thanks to a great little program called Kung Tunes, you can now see what mp3 I am currently listening to on my Mac! Just look at the top of the main page and it will refresh often.

I know, it's a pretty useless thing and you'll probably be surprised at what mp3s I have! I do have a very wide love for most types of music.

If I don't have iTunes on, it will display "iTunes off."
